ABOUT

“Over the years, I have worked with patients, students, and wellness teams across clinical, academic, and hospitality settings, each of which has shaped how I practice Ayurveda today.”

Prof. Dr. Prasanna Kakunje, B.A.M.S., M.D. (Ayu)

I am an Ayurvedic physician, teacher, and clinical consultant, in active clinical practice since 2002, with specialization in internal medicine (Kayachikitsa).

My work spans patient care, academic teaching, research orientation, and wellness consulting. Across all these roles, my focus has remained consistent: understanding disease at its root, setting realistic expectations, and supporting long-term health rather than short-term or symptomatic fixes.

Professional roles

  • Ayurvedic physician in clinical practice since 2002
  • Professor and postgraduate teacher in Ayurveda (Kayachikitsa)
  • Clinical consultant for wellness centres and integrative health programs
  • Research-oriented clinician with interest in outcome analysis and applied AI in Ayurveda

Clinical focus

Clinical practice is centred on chronic, recurrent, and complex internal medicine conditions, where long-term management, patient education, and realistic expectations are essential. Treatment planning emphasizes classical Ayurvedic principles adapted to contemporary clinical contexts.

Teaching and academic work

In parallel with clinical practice, I have been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate Ayurvedic education, serving as a Professor and postgraduate teacher in Kayachikitsa.

Academic work has remained closely integrated with clinical practice.

Selected global work and institutional associations

A significant part of my professional growth has come from international clinical and wellness exposure, which has shaped how I understand and communicate Ayurveda across cultures, healthcare systems, and hospitality environments.

  • Clinical and wellness engagements with established international hospitality and healthcare organisations, including Mandarin Oriental (Bangkok), Vivanta by Taj (Bekal, Kerala), Amrtasiddhi Ayurvedic Centre, Bali, Indonesia and Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre (Mysore)
  • Advisory and project consultancy roles for wellness and spa operations such as Denissons Spa & Health Club (Hubli) and Gamyam Retreat by Denissons (Kumta)
  • Involvement in pre-opening and operational phases of Ayurveda-integrated wellness facilities, including Ayurvedic penthouse and Jiva Spa models
  • Professional exposure through work and consultations across Thailand, Indonesia (Bali), Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and the Middle East
  • Association with international wellness networks and professional bodies, including Spa Team International

These engagements have contributed to practical understanding of how Ayurveda is applied within diverse healthcare, hospitality, and cultural settings.

Current focus

At present, my work continues to balance clinical practice, academic engagement, and advisory roles, with growing emphasis on:

  • Outcome-based Ayurvedic care
  • Ethical and realistic integrative practice
  • Applied AI and data-supported clinical analysis in Ayurveda

All of this remains grounded in one principle: responsible Ayurvedic practice shaped by long-term experience, real patients, and real clinical outcomes.
